It takes time to learn a new skill. If you’re anything like me, your path to calm through mindfulness will be more SQUIGGLY than straight. Two steps forward, one step back. Fall off the bandwagon in a BLAZE OF UN-GLORY, and then jump back on the next day. Explode into FEROCIOUS FLAMES over spilt milk and then forgive yourself wholeheartedly as soon as you find your way back to the present.
It might feel as though you’re condoning your own “bad behaviour”, but seriously, it works. Self-compassion extends the pause between thoughts and actions – the pause that allows you to make choices that align with your values. And good choices feel GOOD. So be your own best friend. Woo-hah!
