I’m sorry I haven’t posted here as regularly as I’d planned to lately. The thing is, I have 20-odd stitches in my back. Which clearly isn’t ideal… but I love them! I love them because they’re infinitely cooler than their predecessor – a sneaky old melanoma, my second this … More
The stress of motherhood is unique.
Being a mum is constant, and it can be intense. You can’t always walk away when you need a break, so thoughts and emotions tend to whirl & swirl & morph & multiply. In the blink of an eye they can become HUGE & FEROCIOUS and overwhelm you completely. Then Monster Mum emerges and there's SHOUTING & SWEARING & SNOT. Like that time when you found your toddler in the bathroom covered in wee, with wee all over the floor, a whole roll of toilet paper unwound through it, and your 6-month-old crawling gleefully through the stinky, soggy shambles.
Such is motherhood - sometimes it's magical, sometimes it's a wee-soaked mess!
And what’s with all this WORRY? You worry whether you’re doing it right, or whether you’re doing enough. You worry what other people think. You tell yourself not to, but you Just Can’t Help It.
Then there's the GUILT. Guilt for going back to work. Guilt for not going back to work. Guilt for not being the parent you hoped you'd be. Guilt for exploding in front of your kids again.
While we can’t control what unfolds in the topsy-turvy world of motherhood, we can control our response.
Understanding our minds & learning skills to deal with the curveballs they deliver gives us a choice as to how we think, feel and behave.
Less reacting, more responding. Hell yeah!
Spend less time: * Overanalysing & worrying * Feeling frustrated & angry * Shouting * Feeling guilty
And more time: * Feeling confident & capable * Making choices that align with your values * Enjoying life as a mum!
Getting "out of your mind" is good for you. Who knew?
